Mexican gastronomy

By: Keli Dailey

For a close-up look at a cuisine enjoying pop-gourmet stardom — dubbed “Baja Med” by its top chef practitioners, praised by famous food-TV hosts, whispered about as one of the world’s next great menu traditions — see this festival.

It kicks off in Tijuana Thursday with a tribute to the city’s invention, the Caesar salad. Held at the Via Corporativo building, the $40 event tosses in tastings of Baja Med foodstuff and the region’s craft beer and wines.

Friday and Saturday are about collaborative feasts: More than 20 restaurants, from Tijuana to San Felipe, will bring in sought-after chefs and sommeliers from around Mexico, Spain and San Diego for dinners ($50 to $120; wine pairings included).
