The collection he sent out on Thursday, the closing day of New York’s spring/summer 2013 season, had all the designer’s skills: the tweak of the classic, in pants as full-hipped jodhpurs; jackets as taut and brief as boleros; and ripples of frills at the shoulder of a top.
There were just enough flower patterns and gilded matador decoration to give a Latin American flavor to what is ultimately the Lauren aesthetic. Although the clothes, stripped down to their essentials, and the decorative details like a striped bag or colored beads, were fine on their own, the overall effect was one big cliché.
