Where can you sample dozens of Rosarito`s best chilis, salsas and frijoles - enjoy the aromas and flavors of culinary creations of Canadian, American, Mexican and Central and South American cooks - compare the taste of yellow Peruvian frijoles to several offerings of Mexican frijoles and midwestern baked beans - and go back for seconds whenever your taste buds beckon?

The Rosarito Friends of the Library will present their second annual Chili Cook-Off and Salsa Sampler, and this year a new Frijole Fiesta has been added to the agenda. Saturday July 28 from noon until 4 p.m. is the time and Abelardo Rodriguez Park next to CEMAC, one block west of Banamex, is the place. The $10 admission will allow you to stroll from table to table at your leisure, to sample any or all of the chilis, frijoles and salsas as often as you wish and to enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the park as you do so. Beverages will also be available.

Chilis can be meatless, con carne, beanless, hot, mild, medium, traditional, Tex-Mex or otherwise; salsas can be red, green, chunky, creamy, spicy, mild or killer; frijoles can be yellow canellas with Peruvian spices and flavors, traditional Mexican whole bean or creamed, sweet baked Iowa farm-style, Texas-style or unique gourmet taste sensations. It will be a day that your taste buds will remember fondly!

The proceeds will support the five Rosarito public libraries through the programs of the Friends of the Library. Those programs include reading circles and story-telling for pre-readers, reading contests for elementary students, donations of new books, computer tables and supplies to the libraries, repairs to library buildings and many other activities.

Restaurants, individuals and organizations can enter their culinary creations - all will be judged by an expert panel, and by the public. Cook-off rules and registration forms are available at our website – www.friendsofthelibrary.com.mx – and further information can be requested at friendsofthelibraryrb@gmail.com.

All persons who come to enjoy the varied taste treats should bring an empty stomach - and they can get their admission tickets at International Mail Center in Oceana Plaza, at Rene`s Mailroom, from any member of the Friends of the Library, or at the door.
