 GUADALUPE VALLEY
ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA

Guadalupe Valley

Guadalupe Valley, a.k.a. the Wine Route, is one of several treasures offered by Baja California. The Mediterranean climate presents an ideal place for growing grapes and olives, as well as producing wine, olive oil and other products like cheeses and preserves.

The unique character of the Wine Route is due to the first settlers of this region. Starting with the Kumiai, indigenous groups followed by Iberian and Mexican missionaries who opened the gap for the arrival of immigrants from Russia and other parts of Europe as well as Mexico.

The valleys of Guadalupe, San Antonio de Las Minas, Santo Tomás, San Vicente, Ojos Negros, Tanama, Grullas and Valle de Las Palmas are the heart of the Wine Route and is where Baja California wines are made with dedication, love and passion for wine by family owned wineries both artisanal and large-scale producers. Many with international recognition.

Apart from all activities related to wine tastings, guided tours, shopping, etc. the Wine Route offers visitors, parallel to the subject of wine, a whole range of rural restaurants and high gourmet cuisine and hotels, boutiques, craft centers, museums, art galleries, native culture, mission sites, parietal art, natural sites, ranches and spas, all ideal for family fun. Guadalupe Valley has also facilities for private events and concerts with national and international artists, fairs and food festivals.

Although the Wine Route is to be enjoyed throughout the year, the celebration of wine starts in the months of April and May with the Festival of Shells and New Wine, and the Festival "Viñedos en Flor" continuing a series of events in the valleys, culminating in August with the great celebration of the Harvest Festival, which begins on the first Friday of the month, for a period of three weeks, culminating with the traditional "Paella Contest''.

3. ACTIVITIES

A. HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE

This is one of the wonders that life gives for us to enjoy and bow before its magnificence. It is an unforgettable experience, it lasts around an hour, but it all depends on the weather conditions; You can reach up to 3,500 ft. high and see the entire Valle de Guadalupe, the foothills of the Sierra de Juárez and even the Pacific Ocean. If you have a fear of heights don’t worry, you can barely feel the basket moving, take off is slow and you’ll be up high before you even know it. You will have to reserve ahead of time because the waiting list is long, currently only a few balloons are at work and you have to go through the El Cielo winery to reserve a trip, although it’s expected for other wineries to start offering this service.
