WHY BAJA SUR

Baja California Sur, MexicoBaja California has two states: Baja California Norte and Baja California Sur. The southern state of Baja California Sur is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Most of the people coming to visit are attracted by the water sports that abound in the area. Deep sea fishing, scuba diving, whale watching, surfing and swimming are found both on the Pacific Ocean side and in the Sea of Cortez.

You may also want to join the tens of thousands of people that journey here to see the finish of the Baja 1000 off road race. The race starts in Ensenada and finishes in La Paz and is said to be one of the most challenging races in the world.

There have been people living in this area for over 11,000 years and historic relics and cave paintings can be viewed by tourists. There are companies that specialize in conducting tours to these historical sites so you can be sure to see the best examples of the history of the area first hand.

The major destinations in Baja California Sur are Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Todo Santos, Los Barriles, La Paz, Mulege and Loreto. Each of these cities has its own personality and there is something for everyone. Also there are many smaller towns that are very appealing to Americans, Canadians and people from around the world. If you have never been to Baja Sur you need to put it on your list of things to do.

Getting to the tip of Baja can be done by car, boat or plane. By road the Benito Juarez Trans-peninsula Highway 1 goes from Tijuana to Los Cabos. This highway offers the services of the Federal Highway Patrol, the Green Angels and the services offered by the nearest cities including the Red Cross, police stations, grocery stores and motels.

You may also reach Cabo San Lucas by boat, traveling down the Pacific side from San Diego or the Sea of Cortez from San Felipe or from many cities on the west coast of the mainland of Mexico.

If you would rather travel by air there are 3 international airports that you can fly to. There is The International Airport of Los Cabos (SJD), The International Airport of La Paz (LAP), and The International Airport of Loreto (LTO).
